Civic Day is an event run annually by the national organisation Civic Voice. As part of this national event, Cockermouth Civic Trust will be having a Cockermouth Civic Day event on Saturday, June 15th between 10.00am and 1.00pm at the United Reformed Church, Main Street. This will take the form of an exhibition and discussion points along with coffee and biscuits. You are cordially invited to attend this event.
The following subjects will be highlighted:
Local planning & how we want Cockermouth to develop
Walks of Pride & potential improvements to our streetscape
Local listing, what it is & what should be subject to listing locally
Flags for Cumberland and Cockermouth, their value.
Membership of the Civic Trust & what it provides.
We will also have a book sales desk and member and local artist Victor de Quincey will be exhibiting some of his work.
Anyone interested in Cockermouth, as well as members, will be invited through the local press to come along and join in the discussions and learn something about the Civic Trust movement both locally and nationally.
At 10.30am, as part of the event, we will be having the press and public launch of a new book entitled “Main Street Reborn”. The book records and celebrates the achievements of the Shop Front Heritage Grant Scheme and of the organisations and people involved. The book focuses on all the shops involved in the rescue of the town centre and there are photographs of the shop frontages before and after the post-flood renovations along with images of the same frontages in the more distant past. The Town Mayor and Mayoress will be guests at this book launch. The book will be on sale at this event at a special “launch price” of £5 per copy.
We hope that you will find time to come along and chat with the members of your Executive Committee.
