Newsletter 140

A Happy New Year to everyone. Our last newsletter was in August. Since then, we have had Heritage Open Days and started our 2018/19 lecture season; we have submitted our second round of nominations for the Allerdale Local List; with Cockermouth Travel, we have finally succeeded in achieving the planting of 31 trees along St Helens Street and we have had our Conservation Area short-listed for the Civic Voice ‘England’s Favourite Conservation Area’ competition. Following the rejection of planning permission for a commercial, (B&M), development on Low Road behind The Lakes, a slightly revised application has been submitted, which does not address any of our concerns. There have also been ‘rumours’ about Cumbria County Council reintroducing the concept of on-street parking charges. We have identified a pressing need to recruit new members and are planning a recruitment campaign in 2019, for which we
will need your help. So, plenty to talk about!
